چکیده

Efficient models based on behavioural modelling techniques are needed for RF and microwave mixers in order to check the performances of communication systems. Here, we propose a model consisting on the cascade connection of an input equivalent filter, characterising the linear transmission and reflection memory effects, and an ideal nonlinear mixer model, providing the frequency translation and also the nonlinear amplitude and phase distortion for the central frequency. Model parameters can be obtained either from measurements or simulations of the mixer circuit. The reported models can be implemented in any commercial simulator by using standard library components and can be employed both in frequency and time-domain simulations, demonstrating good agreement and significant reduction of simulation time with respect to the simulation of detailed electrical circuit models. The modelling technique is illustrated through two WLAN IEEE 802.11a mixer examples: an up-converter and a down-converter. T 3 Mixer Primer A Tutorial on High Linearity / High IP 3 RF & Microwave Mixers

Intermodulation distortion (IMD) suppression is a critical issue in modern military and commercial RF/microwave systems. Pressed by the demands imposed by distortion-sensitive digital modulation formats, modern systems routinely specify linearity requirements that are impossible to attain using conventional approaches. To meet these new challenges, Marki Microwave has introduced the Two-Tone-Te...

Low Voltage Performance of a Microwave CMOS Gilbert Cell Mixer

This paper demonstrates the low voltage operation of a doubly balanced Gilbert mixer fabricated in a 0.8m CMOS process and operating as both a down-converter and an upconverter. As a down-converter with an RF input of 1.9 GHz, the mixer has a single sideband noise figure as low as 7.8 dB and achieved down-conversion gain for supply voltages as low as 1.8 V. As an up-converter, the mixer demonst...

Graphene FETs in Microwave Applications

Graphene is a one-atom-thick sheet of carbon with numerous impressive properties. It is a promising material for future high-speed nanoelectronics due to its intrinsic superior carrier mobility and very high saturation velocity. These exceptional carrier transport properties suggest that graphene field effect transistors (G-FETs) can potentially outperform other FET technologies. This doctoral ...

Analysis of Mixer Port Crosstalk Using Microwave Matching Measurements

The analysis of crosstalk between ports of integrated balanced mixers is difficult because the circuit is strongly nonlinear and the crosstalk depends on information which, if it is known at all, is not always provided by the foundry. This paper presents a general method for calculating mixer crosstalk. Device measurements are combined with periodic small-signal analysis to yield the crosstalk ...
